I am the Express Newspaper’s Official Complainer and I write on behalf of Doris Watkins from Kingbury, London.
Doris prefers Texaco petrol to all other brands. For reasons that remain unclear even to me, Doris believes that a few glugs of your finest unleaded turn her S reg Austin Allegro into a sporty Porsche 911 Carrera 4. Not for her the stuff made by boring BP, shoddy Shell or terrible Total. As for the supermarkets, with their new fuel forecourts, Doris prefers to limit her shopping to baked beans, spam and the odd tin of exotic pineapple.
Up until last week Doris used to visit your Kingsbury Circle filling station and would carefully pump a few gallons of your special brew into her little automotive treasure. Can you begin to imagine her shock and despair when last Wednesday she pulled in for her regular fill up? After stopping, she got out and reached for her favourite nozzle. It was gone. So was the pump and indeed all the other pumps. Absent too were the buckets of sand, the usual huge unsold piles of barbecue charcoal and the flowers, thoughtfully provided for those who have left too late to buy a real present. To put it bluntly, the whole shooting match had disappeared. It was an ex-petrol station, it had ceased to pump, it was no more.
Doris misses the friendly attendant and the homely atmosphere of the Kingsbury Circle Star Market. What is especially upsetting is that she now will now have to waste petrol driving to her nearest Texaco branch on the Uxbridge Road. Please reassure Doris that you have great plans for the regeneration and rebirth of this useful and much-loved site. I trust that you will respond in the best petroleum spirit by sharing your secret plans with Doris and our other readers.
